MotorSport New Zealand opens tender for Rally Championship Promoter from 2028

MotorSport New Zealand has today opened an open tender for the role of Championship Promoter of the MotorSport New Zealand Rally Championship for the 2028, 2029 and 2030 seasons, with rights of renewal for up to two further seasons through to 2032.

The current promoter appointment expires on 30 November 2027. Any party that meets the eligibility requirements is welcome to submit a tender, including the incumbent promoter. Tenders close at 4.30pm on Friday 29 January 2027.

The appointed promoter will take responsibility for the sporting, commercial and promotional delivery of the championship. That includes building the annual calendar with the governing body, member clubs and venues, marketing and media, broadcast and live streaming, sponsorship, and the experience of entrants at every round. Each season must feature at least five rounds, with a minimum of two in each of the North and South Islands.

“The MotorSport New Zealand Rally Championship is the flagship of our sport, and this tender is an opportunity to take it to the next level,” said MotorSport New Zealand President, Deborah Day.

“We are looking for a partner who can grow entries, bring new fans to rallying, and make the championship a must-have for event organisers, all while keeping costs manageable for competitors and looking after the volunteers and officials who make every event possible.”

MotorSport New Zealand’s objectives for the championship are to:

  1. Increase participation and engagement, including officials and volunteers
  2. Make the championship highly attractive to participants, spectators, media and commercial partners
  3. Offer a compelling product so that rally organisers want their events included
  4. Build a highly visible flagship that attracts new public interest in motorsport
  5. Ensure strong international alignment
  6. Keep fees and costs manageable for entrants and stakeholders, so the championship is sustainable

Tenders will be assessed on candidates’ operational and financial capability, experience in promoting motorsport events, relationships across the rally community and media, and their vision for the championship.
